Ethernet First Mile (EFM)
Where availble, EFM is a low cost alternative to Ethernet fibre for speeds up to 20Mbps if EoFttC/GEA is not yet available.
EFM is delivered over standard copper pairs bonded to give a range of speeds. Since it uses DSL broadband technology, it is still distance dependant so we will always need yourpremises Post Code to confirm if EFM is an option.
We offer 2 varieties of EFM - one from BT Wholesale and the other from TalkTalk Business. There are some technical and pricing differences between them but we will advise the best product for you based upon your location and availability.
Pricing is higher than for EoFttC/GEA but still usually much less than for Ethernet fibre. In common with all our Ethernet services, EFM offers:
- Uncontended 1:1 - no sharing, guaranteed bandwidth 100% of the time
- Symmetrical speed - usually 20Mbps upload and download (distance dependent)
- SLA - 6 hour fix (subject to the usual caveats)
Where available, this is a good choice for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) who rely heavily on a stable internet connection for online services like email, hosted applications and of course, Voice over IP (VoIP). The high troughput and low latency/jitter of these circuits is ideal for ISDN replacement with SIP trunks or Hosted Telephony.
EFM costs considerably less than full Fibre to the Premises services. Call us today to check availability at your location and to get a quote.
